You compel the target to fight with an eye toward mercy and restraint. The target can attempt a Will save. On a failure, the target is forced to deal nonlethal damage with its attacks, either with a weapon with the nonlethal trait or taking the –2 circumstance penalty to attack rolls with other weapons.

The target won’t attack a helpless creature and avoids using spells and effects that deal lethal damage. If the target controls other creatures, it cannot direct those creatures to perform prohibited actions. However, a creature can act autonomously to inflict lethal damage.
